This rock formation appears beside Kaieteur Falls in Guyana. The legend is that Chief Kai of the Patamona tribe, sacrificed himself by canoeing over the massive waterfall in order that Makanaima, the Great Spirit would save his tribe from being destroyed by the Caribs. The Chief and his canoe were turned to stone and now form the rocks. “Teur”=Falls, hence Kaieteur.
